Also, Setting Effect is set to on. My monitor darkens and it becomes difficult to establish correct exposure. Doesn't always happens, just most of the time. If I tap on the camera which I don't like to do the monitor return to its normal bright color, but then goes about one stop darker.
Anyone have this problem? All responses greatly appreciated. Thank you. Turning Setting Effect off will negate the whole joy of using this camera in Live View. It prevents seeing the effects of changing both aperture and shutter speeds, adjusting White Balance and setting the various color controls. I understand this setting is appropriate for shooting movies, but it is also what this camera is about when shooting stills as well, particularly when you have time to make these various adjustments as in Landscape or Seascape photography.
What does the picture look like when you take it? What metering mode are you using? That may effect what you're seeing Well, Jamie the answer to your question is a complicated one. At that point when the screen goes darker it seems the camera doesn't want to accept the aperture you turn to, but rather you almost have to guess what that aperture should be. The manual setting goes on strike. Now all of a sudden the monitor doesn't seem to readily show the aperture you've input. You just about are forced to guess what should be the correct aperture which isn't why you use manual setting to begin with.
The screen wants to turn dark again and I can change that by lightly tapping on the camera something I don't really like to do. It's all very frustrating. I love this camera for certain types of photography. It has all kinds of technological bells and whistles, kind of like my new "high tech" washing machine, which keeps breaking down and I having to call the repair man all the time.
I have called Sony and they advise sending it back for repair. It is still under warranty. I also discovered a ton of "dust bunnies" on the sensor.
When you can see some of them on the monitor then you know they're sizable pieces. The camera came with them because I only have the one kit lens mm, f2. Any one else out there have repairable problems with them?
I was under the impression Sony's SLT cameras were a hardy breed. Maybe I was wrong. The camera seems to be working exactly the way it is supposed to work from we hat I can tell in reading your description. Do you have it in flash mode? You are not to have the effects mode on when using manual flash for it takes into account only the ambient light needed to be added to flash thus render the screen black in most cases. You selected your own response as the answer to the question?
Regardless of any lost capabilities suffered when turning Setting Effect off, that is what you will have to do sometimes. In the case you described, the fact that the camera is previewing the actual results of your settings prevents you from seeing the scene properly I can't say I've ever heard of the sorts of problems you're having, without it being some setting issue.
That's not to say that there isn't a technical problem, but if so, it isn't common. When the screen goes dark, what is your EV reading? So your camera is not working right. Two questions, does the lag in screen change occur when adjusting both the aperture and shutter speed? If it is just aperture you may have a bad aperture lever in the camera or a sticky aperture in the lens.
I can see taping the camera helping a sticky aperture move to the correct spot. When you doing this you should also see the exposure meter stepping up and down with your changes.
Edit: I don't think the aperture actually moves during the adjustments unless you use the preview button, so may be more of a electronic glitch. Hi, the reason I asked such a simple question was: If you are setting the camera to give you a very dark image then that's what it will do - also if you use flash it will appear very dark I do a lot of work with studio lights so I use the camera with live view settings off for those - there's no logical way around it if you think about it.
If that's the case and a tap on the camera is making it lighter I would guess that you have a loose connection somewhere but it's unlikely that it would be so repeatable if that were the case. So to try and narrow it down before you send it away check these: 1 Is it both the VF and the rear screen that go dark?
Either way - with my A I sent it to Sony to clean dust off the sensor and they did it for free I was expecting to pay including shipping both ways, so if you do send it back I'd highlight it and ask them to look at the same time and ignore where they may or may not have come from to start with.
